Summer Travel Makeup Hacks
Travelling can throw your usual beauty routine into a tailspin. Low luggage space and strict airport security restrictions mean that we beauty junkies often have to sacrifice some of our favourite products when we jet off on vacation.
Add the warmer temperatures to the mix, and keeping your brows on fleek and your skin flawless can become an everyday battle. But that doesn't mean you can't still look fabulous on your vacation! Use our holiday travel makeup tips to keep your cosmetic collection perfect during any trip you take this summer.
Tips for travelling makeup addicts this summer
Travel light
Booked hand luggage only, then realised you can’t live without your favourite beauty products for the duration of the trip? Decant your liquids into contact lens caps. They can hold the perfect amount of foundation, cleanser or moisturiser for a weekend away and you can slip them into a clear plastic bag and carry them on to the flight. Doing this not only saves on luggage space, but it means you don't have to pack your full-size products and potentially – dare we say it – lose them during the trip.
Mix your perfect shade
Even if you wear SPF all summer long (and you should!), it's likely your skin will tan a little during the sunnier months. Avoid forking out for foundation in a shade darker after your summer holiday with this easy summer makeup hack. Simply mix a little bronzer into your usual foundation to create a shade that matches your current skin tone. Blend it on the back of your hand and apply. Voila!
Cover less
Don't feel like rocking full coverage in the baking heat on holiday? Dilute your usual foundation with a drop of moisturiser that contains high SPF to create a lighter product, almost like a BB cream. It blurs imperfections while keeping your skin looking natural and hydrated. Sheer coverage, without the price tag.
Invest in a makeup multitasker
You don't need to pack a bunch of products for your summer trip when just one multipurpose item will do. Our Blush Serum gives a flush of colour to both cheeks and lips, meaning you get two products in one. A good bronzer can double up as eyeshadow and eyeliner. Experiment with blending the product across your eyelid with your fingers, or applying it to your lash line with an eyeliner brush. Your holiday makeup routine just got a whole lot more straightforward!
Downsize
You may not realise, but a lot of your favourite makeup is probably suitable for your cabin bag. Lipsticks, glosses, shadows etc are all likely to be under 100ml, which is the usual limit for carry-on liquids on most airlines. If anything is in a container that’s more than 100ml, why not buy a miniature version of a new brand you’ve been desperate to try?
Stay in your prime
Warmer temperatures mean makeup is more likely to slide. Prepare your skin with a good primer on any summer trips to keep everything where it should be. You can dance all night at a beach club and still come home looking gorgeous!
Rescue your powder
We've all felt the horror of our favourite compact shattering, and it's even more likely to happen during travel. Fear not, there's an easy way to save your smashed up product. Take a rounded object and bash the entire product in the compact into a fine powder, then add a dollop of petroleum jelly and mix. The solution will form a thick paste which you can pat down and leave to set. It will look brand new when you come back to it. Disaster averted!
Streamline your routine
In the summer months, most of us don't need a full face of makeup. Skip the foundation altogether and let your natural glow shine through. For a day at the pool, stick to waterproof mascara, clear brow gel and gloss. At night, simply add a dusting of bronzer, highlight and a bold lip for a fun holiday look. Take a look at your makeup collection. What can you afford to leave behind?
Makeup junkies, we hope our summer beauty tips for travellers help! So, where are you off to?
